Eight of the ten places on this week's ARIA Australian Artist Albums chart are new entries, on the chart dated 24 August. One of the eight also made the main Top 50 Albums top ten.

That one is Peking Duk. Paradise, the electronic duo's first album after more than a decade of singles and festival sets, debuted at number one on the Australian chart and number six on the all-comers chart. It was released on 14 August, has 14 tracks, and carries guest turns from Rico Nasty, Killer Mike, Phantogram, Kah-Lo and Matt Corby, with a spoken-word introduction from Jack Thompson.

Behind it, in order: Kate Miller-Heidke's The Kiss And The Abyss at two, Phil Jamieson's 10Charlie at three, Grace Cummings' Bloodhorse! at four, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's Alien Metal at five, the Hard-Ons collaboration with Jerry A at six, Sunday Lemonade's The Forest To The Sea at seven and Ocean Alley's In Purple at ten. Spacey Jane's If That Makes Sense held on at eight in its 66th week, and Casey Barnes' Made For This fell from number one to nine.

Seven of those eight new entries did not appear anywhere in the Top 50 Albums top ten, which was led by Phoebe Bridgers' Lost Weekend, also a debut, ahead of Olivia Rodrigo, Stray Kids, Olivia Dean and Ariana Grande. Noah Kahan, Sienna Spiro, Jungle and Alex Warren filled the rest of the ten, with Jungle's Sunshine another new entry.

The singles chart tells the same story more sharply. Tame Impala's Loser, up four places to seven, is the only Australian entry in the top ten. Katseye's Animal took number one with a 12-place jump.

Eight simultaneous debuts is a lot for a chart of ten places. It also means seven of those records spent their release week competing against each other for local chart positions rather than against the international releases sitting at the top of the main chart.

The nomination cut-off is close. ARIA turns 40 in November and has confirmed the awards for Wednesday 18 November at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, streaming live on Paramount+ and screening later on 10, with nominations announced on 24 September. Spotify returns as presenting partner. ARIA counts streaming alongside sales in its charts, so the ceremony's commercial partner is also one of the services whose data feeds the charts the awards draw on.

Peking Duk's national tour runs from September through November. Nominations land on 24 September, and the next weekly chart is published on Friday.
