The Odyssey took $11.45 million at the Australian box office in its second weekend, holding number one and lifting its local total to $29.9 million in two weeks, according to figures published by Variety Australia on Monday.
Christopher Nolan's film opened across 321 locations with 16,888 sessions, running in IMAX, 4DX and 70mm. Variety reported it had passed US$639 million worldwide after two weekends, including US$140 million from IMAX screens.
Moana was second with $1.2 million for a three-week total of about $15 million. Toy Story 5 was third on a similar weekend figure, taking its six-week total to $44.2 million. Minions & Monsters took $744,000 for a five-week total of $22.5 million.
All four are releases from American studios. No Australian film appeared in the top four.
The gap between first and second place on the chart was more than nine to one. Variety reported that The Odyssey had the strongest second weekend of any film that opened above US$100 million, a comparison drawn on its worldwide run rather than the Australian one.
Screen counts shifted over the weekend too. The Invite widened from about 100 screens to 202, and its average take per screen almost halved, according to FilmInk's box office report published on Monday.
A high-quality recording of The Odyssey circulated on X over the weekend and reached 2.1 million views before it was taken down. The film's Australian takings held at number one over the same period.
The Odyssey opens its third weekend on Thursday. Toy Story 5, in its sixth week, remains the biggest earner on the chart at $44.2 million.
