The 2026 FIFA World Cup completed its group stage across 16 US cities, three Canadian cities, and three Mexican cities, with the expanded 48-team tournament producing its first knockout lineup as the Round of 32 was set.

It is the first World Cup to feature 48 national teams, up from 32, and the first hosted jointly by three countries. Games have been spread across 16 US cities, three Canadian cities, and three Mexican cities.

Australia advanced as runners-up in Group D with four points, securing a place in the knockout rounds for the third time in the country's World Cup history. The Socceroos beat Turkey 2-0 in Vancouver on June 13, lost to the United States 2-0 in Seattle on June 19, then drew 0-0 with Paraguay in Santa Clara on June 25 to advance.

The United States won Group D and will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on July 1 in Santa Clara. The host nation's 4-1 win over Paraguay earlier in the group stage drew one of the tournament's largest crowds.

Mexico topped Group A and faces Egypt. Canada, playing at home, finished second in Group B and will meet South Africa in Los Angeles.

The expanded format has been commercially successful. Average stadium attendance across group stage matches broke World Cup records in the United States and Canada.

Quarter-finals and semi-finals are scheduled for mid-July, with the final in New York on July 19.
